Tour de Corgi
FORT COLLINS, CO – If you were walking around in old town Fort Collins Saturday morning and found yourself near Civic Center Park you would have had an interesting start to your day.
Hundreds of corgi’s littered the corner of Laporte Avenue and Howes Street Saturday, to partake in the event.
On Friday they had vendor booths, with corgi art, merchandise, and gourmet treats. On Saturday, it was the main event. The costume contest got corgi’s dressed up as mailmen, lions, hot dogs, and of course a banana.

The costume contest took place online with the #tourdecorgi2021 on Instagram. You would post your corgi with the hashtag and people would vote for it by liking your post.
On Sunday there was a mile long parade through the heart of Fort Collins. This parade started at Civic Center Park and went through the old town square, along College Avenue and then they wrapped up the weekend back at the park.
Malini Bartels, a founding committee member for Tour de Corgi, explains that this years event was a great way to “get back in the saddle.”
After having to do the event virtual last year due to covid, Tour de Corgi pushed the slogan of back in the saddle this year with shirts and banners. Jozie, a routine participant in the annual Tour de Corgi said, “We really missed it last year in person, being our here with all of these cute corgis, especially on such a nice day was such a treat.”
This event has been going on at Civic Center Park for five years with the event being in fruition since 2014. With it being the first time the event was held in two years Malina Bartels explained, “It was great to have one of our biggest turnouts yet, the community really needed this and so did we, it was great having the communities support along with our sponsor’s.”
The event has many sponsors that help fund it while getting some publicity in their own sense. On the west side of the park there was a parking lot with a plethora of booths that housed many different types of companies.
Of course there were the businesses that catered to the event like, Sherwood Pet Portraits, Premier Doggy Daycare, and Wagz 4 Paws Pet Pantry. All of these booths had lines and different goodie bags and treats to help advertise their businesses. With all of these sponsors there was something for everyone to do.
The event at Civic Center Park was for corgi owners to have fun and dress their dog up for the day and meet other corgi owners along with show how strong the corgi community is.
